WEEK 21 to 24
Thank you!
Now our amazing new build project is drawing to an end we are able to reflect and look back at what has been achieved. We have had amazing support from our parents and local community who have supported our fundraising events and worked with us all the way. Special thanks to the Parish Council who found us a plot to build on and donated £7,000 which included the £1,000 prize money from "Village of the Year". We have also been lucky to receive donations from other local charities - The Bonfire Society, The Rotherfield Players, Cuckoo Line Stores and St Denys’ Church PCC.
However the biggest thanks must go to East Sussex County Council who have provided the main funding for this project has come in the form of a Capital Grant. They have also provided us with practical and business support and have guided us through the whole process. We have also received guidance from other sources such as Steven George, our Architect, and his team at Mackellar Schwerdt, the Project Managers from Gleeds, Bob from PJR Design Services and not forgetting Cheesmur the builders - Norman the Site Manager has been a Saint. So thank you everyone we really can’t believe how lucky we have been.
Together as a community and with the financial backing of East Sussex County Council, we have provided a legacy for the children of our community for many years to come.
Vicky

Thursday 14th October 2010
Vicky went to the site today and noted that the fittings for the children’s toilet cubicles have arrived. The flooring and painting should be going ahead soon.
Friday 15th October 2010
Vicky and Gillian unexpectedly had an opportunity to go onto site again to discuss an issue that had come up. It also gave us time to plan for when we move in with the room layout and possible new daily routines. The paint has arrived and also the blue flooring for the adult toilets (as seen below, rolled up behind Vicky)
WEEK 22 - Monday 18th October - Friday 22nd October
Tuesday 19th October 2010
The decorators are in! Everywhere is looking very white with the first coat of paint. The final colour is called ‘Ice-cream’. The flooring in the toilets have gone down too. Also the brickwork around the bottom of the outside area railings are being laid.
Friday 22nd October 2010
The scaffolding has gone now that the brick laying around the bottom of the railings has been completed. Inside, all the walls have a fresh coat of ‘Ice-cream’ paint on them and the final coat will go on next week.

WEEK 23 - Monday 25th October - Friday 29th October
Friday 29th October 2010
This morning saw the last of the progress meetings before completion. Everyone is pleased with the progress, however the completion date is now 12th November.
The membrane on the outside decking area is being fitted and walls below the railings are being prepared for rendering. Paving is being laid at the main entrance. The hatch to the office is almost complete, just the sliding glass windows to be fitted. The toilet fixtures are being installed, along with the cubicles. The flooring to the main room, office and lobby is being left as long as possible in the attempt to keep it as clean as possible!

WEEK 24 - Monday 1st November - Friday 5th November
Tuesday 2nd November 2010
Vicky has reported that the decking is now going down on the outside raised classroom, screed has been put down on the floor ready for the final flooring of the main playroom and trenches are being dug to receive the bollards that light the pathway to the pre-school.
Wednesday 3rd November 2010

Friday 5th November 2010
Today was the original date for the completion of our new Pre-School building. It hasn’t quite finished yet but should be completed by this time next week. A lot of finishing off is going on including the decking, landscaping and a little bit more work on the lighting. The flooring was now gone in everywhere and everyone entering the building now have to wear little blue bags on their shoes to try and keep the inside clean. The tiles around all the sink areas have gone up and mirrors are waiting to be put up too.

WEEK 25 - Monday 8th November - Friday 12th November
Thursday 11th November 2010
The last few bits are being finished off. The decorators were in putting the final coat of paint on the walls and painting the doors. The wooden rail was being fitted (in the pouring rain) to the top of the curved railings around the decking area. The handover has been arranged for the afternoon of Monday 15th but there is still so much to do! We will start getting our kitchen appliances in, office furniture, shelving, new ICT equipment (funded by the National Lottery) and Deborah will be putting up our ‘Pottery Tree’.
